CASE STUDY:
The Jam by Maggie O’Neill —
Westfield Montgomery Mall Pop-Up / Gallery Branding
Background

The Jam is a creative boutique and gallery founded by artist and designer Maggie O’Neill, known for her bold artwork, immersive installations, and cultural influence. The Jam serves as a vibrant, community-driven space where art, fashion, and design intersect.

When preparing to launch a pop-up/gallery at Westfield Montgomery Mall, The Jam needed a compelling brand presence that reflected its expressive identity while standing out in a traditional retail environment.

The Challenge

Bringing an art-driven brand into a high-traffic mall environment required a strategic approach. The primary challenges included:

  • Creating a storefront and in-store experience that would stand out among mainstream retail stores.

  • Communicating the brand’s artistic, cultural, and community-centered identity in a concise visual language.

  • Designing a cohesive and professional brand experience across signage, displays, and environmental graphics.

  • Ensuring the pop-up design was flexible, cost-effective, and easy to install — while still feeling premium.

  • Appealing to a wide audience of mall shoppers, art lovers, and curious walk-ins.

Our Approach
Brand Strategy & Creative Direction

We began by aligning on The Jam’s brand pillars: creativity, culture, and community. These pillars informed the visual direction, environmental layout, and storytelling throughout the space.

The brand direction aimed to feel bold, artistic, and vibrant — a true reflection of Maggie O’Neill’s creative voice.

Visual Identity & Logo Application

To support the pop-up activation, we developed and refined key visual identity elements:

  • A consistent visual system suitable for signage, wall graphics, and merchandise.

  • Typography and color palettes that felt expressive, modern, and true to the brand’s artistic roots.

  • Scalable branding assets that worked across digital and physical touchpoints.

These elements ensured every part of the pop-up felt unified and immediately recognizable.

Environmental & Storefront Design

The physical experience was central to this project. We created an environment that balanced the energy of a gallery with the accessibility of a retail store.

This included:

  • Designing a storefront that was visually impactful from the mall concourse.

  • Developing a layout that guided guests smoothly through art displays, merchandise areas, and featured installations.

  • Creating signage, wall graphics, and storytelling moments that communicated the brand’s purpose and aesthetic.

The result was a retail-gallery hybrid that captured attention and encouraged exploration.

Promotional & Marketing Assets

To support the launch, we developed:

  • Print and digital promotional materials for mall traffic and social media.

  • Large-format posters and display cards to highlight featured pieces and brand messaging.

  • Branded packaging and collateral for purchases and gift items.

All assets reinforced the visual identity and strengthened brand recognition.

Results
High Visibility and Increased Foot Traffic

The striking storefront and cohesive visual design attracted shoppers and generated strong walk-in engagement throughout the pop-up’s run.

Authentic Artistic Expression

The branding and environment fully reflected Maggie O’Neill’s artistic style, giving visitors a genuine and immersive creative experience.

Elevated Brand Perception

The polished presentation positioned The Jam as a credible and memorable creative brand within a traditional retail setting.

The systems and assets created can be replicated or adapted for future pop-ups, galleries, or events — supporting long-term brand growth.
